Tyra Cerny, CFI, AGI, IGI
Tyra J. Cerny, CFI, AGI, IGI is a graduate of Inver Hills College Professional Pilot Program. Tyra has been a pilot since 2004. In addition to an Associate in Science degree, Professional Pilot, she has a double Bachelor of Science in Business Aviation Management and Biology from Metropolitan State University. Tyra is currently in a Masters in Leadership program at Saint Mary's college.
She obtained her private pilot certificate in 2004, Instrument Rating in 2004, Commercial Pilot certificate in 2005, Certified Flight Instructor in 2005, Advanced Ground Instructor in 2005, and Instrument Ground Instructor 2007 training at Wings Inc., St. Paul, MN. In 2007 she obtained her Technologically Advanced Airplane (TAA) Glass Cockpit G1000 FITS Training Certification at Sunstate Aviation, Kissimmee, FL. Additionally, she has been invited to be a speaker for the FAA Wings pilot safety program in the Minneapolis region conducting Flight Instructor and Designated Pilot Examiner training on the Sport Pilot certificate and other flight safety training programs.
Tyra was recently honored by the FAA as the 2012 FAASTeam Representative of the Year for Minnesota. This makes two years in a row that Stick-n-Rudder Flight Training, LLC has been honored for quality flight instruction by the FAA.
Tyra J. Cerny is a Physical Therapist with a strong background and specialties in Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Esthetics (Orthotics), Aqua Therapy, Hippo Therapy, as well as a Certified Hippo Therapist Instructor.
As a community volunteer, she has served as part of a specialized aircrew; Search and Rescue Mission Scanner, Observer, and Mission Transport Pilot for the United States Air Force Auxiliary, The Civil Air Patrol with the rank of Captain. Tyra has over 500+ flight hours, and logged over 200+ simulator training hours. Tyra is the lead advanced ground instructor for Stick-n-Rudder Flight Training, LLC®. You will be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable, and thorough, ground instructor. Tyra will make sure that you are prepared and ready for any knowledge test challenge.
Scott Johnson, CFI, AGI
Scott D. Johnson, CFI, AGI is a graduate of the Inver Hills Community College Professional Pilot program. Scott has been a pilot since 2001, taking his first flight lesson on 9-11-01. In addition to an Associates in Science degree ~ Professional Pilot, he has a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and a Certificate in Human Resource Management from Cardinal Stritch University.
He obtained his Private Pilot Certificate in 2002, Instrument Rating in 2004, and Commercial Pilot Certificate in 2005 training at Wings inc. in Saint Paul Minnesota. In 2007 he earned his Advanced Ground Instructor certificate and then went on to became a Certificated Flight Instructor by training at Sunstate Aviation in Kissimmee Florida. In 2009 he completed advanced CFI training with American Flyers in Pompano Florida and renewed his Fight Instructor privileges. In 2011 his flight instructor credentials were again affirmed by the FAA based upon his training record and activities for teaching ground students and conducting advanced flight instructor and pilot examiner training with the FAASTeam. In 2013 the FAA approved Scott Johnson to be an Airman Certification Representative (ACR) for flight instructor renewals via the approved Flight Instructor Refresher Course offered by Stick-n-Rudder Flight Training.
Scott Johnson, CFI, AGI was the founder of Stick-n-Rudder Flight Training, LLC®. He has been an invited moderator for the FAA Wings Pilot Proficiency Program in the Minneapolis region conducting Pilot, Flight Instructor and Designated Examiner training on the Sport Pilot certificate, and other flight safety programs for all pilot ratings. In 2011 he was honored as the Minneapolis regional FAASTeam (FAA Safety Team) representative of the year, and also as the Great Lakes Region representative of the year. He has shared this honor with Tyra, his co-teacher and favorite co-pilot at many events.
As a community service volunteer, he is a Search & Rescue Mission Pilot, and a Standardization & Evaluation Check Pilot for the United States Air Force Auxiliary, the Civil Air Patrol. He has organized, and helped to fly over 100 CAP and ROTC cadet orientation flights, and another 150+ teenagers on Discovery Flights with ~~ Stick-n-Rudder Flight Training, LLC®. He continues his volunteer service today in aerospace education working with young, and seasoned, adults in mentorship programs in several communities.
Scott D. Johnson, CHRM is the founder of Your Benefit Resource! LLC®. Your Benefit Resource! is a human resources and insurance consulting firm working with individuals and business owners on their health, life, dental and disability income insurance and retirement savings programs. 2013 marks his 25th year providing financial services to his valued clients. In 2009 he was awarded Top 7 'Best in Customer Service - Insurance' by Mpls-Saint Paul Magazine.
Professor Emanuel J. Block, PhD. CFI-I
We are fortunate to have as a resource for our students Dr. Block. He serves as a guest speaker and aviation instruction mentor. Dr. Block wrote his dissertation An Analysis of Factors in Teaching Pilots to Land and is an industry recognized aviation educator.
"Manny" attends our sessions periodically to speak to our students about his experiences on flight training and what he has learned in his 60+ years as a pilot. Dr. Block has over 4,200 hours of flight instruction given. His lectures are often the highlight of our sessions and many students, and instructors, come back just to hear his presentation.

We invite numerous other professional pilots, FAA safety inspectors, and designated pilot examiners to our classes to speak with our students. Every session is different and brings a unique perspective and aviation wealth of knowledge not found elsewhere.
